Vejer

If you are interested in cultural tourism, you can follow some guided routes through Vejer’s old town.
Vejer, was declared a Historical and Artistic Environment in 1976 and presented with the First National Prize of Town Beautification in 1978. It is situated on a mount 190 m over sea level with great views and surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Conil, Chiclana, Medina Sidonia, Tarifa and Barbate.
Vejer is a white town in the county of Janda with very singular and well preserved architectural features. Besides its Arab castle the town’s architecture also presents the typical signs of a Medieval enclave, narrow streets, white houses and its wall.
There are two 164m high watch towers that stand out to the west, Torre del Tajo and Torre de Meca. These are two coast watch towers dating back to the 17th and 16th centuries.
Besides, there are two nearby chapels that date back to the Visigoth era: the San Ambrosio Chapel, near the village of San Ambrosio and the Sanctuary of the Oliva in Carretera Vejer-Barbate.
